Levi Colwill

Center Back and Left Back

Choosing our final center back proved to be quite the challenge. We debated between Levi Colwill and Jarrad Branthwaite, finding it difficult to separate the two. They are both very young and talented center-backs playing in mid-table premier league clubs, and neither of them have any real national team experience. We eventually settled on Levi Colwill because we decided he has a higher ceiling, and we think it would be more beneficial to give him international tournament experience over Branthwaite. Perhaps the decision was inconsequential because Harry Maguire and John Stones are sure to be the starting center back pairing with Lewis Dunk as a back-up option, meaning it is unlikely Colwill will see much playing time, if any. However, as mentioned before he is still very young, and we believe he will break his way into the starting 11 within the next few years as he gains more experience. He is currently playing for Chelsea in his second ever Premier League season, having played for Brighton Hove and Albion the season prior. Chelsea currently has many young players vying for spots in the starting 11, so Colwill is unable to play every match. However, when he does play he looks very promising. He has a very athletic build, allowing him to be both very quick and strong. This season he has comfortably out performed other centerbacks when it comes to tackles won, interceptions made, aerial duels won, and progressive movements made. This means he is able to consistently win the ball from opponents and quickly move the ball back up the field to launch a counterattack. We think the 2024 Euros will be a good opportunity for England to develop one of their most promising young players in Levi Colwill, and if he does see the pitch this summer he will be a stable defensive figure for the three lions.

“It feels amazing. It feels like, to me, a reward for all the hard work. Not even just the hard work I have put in this season but my whole career so far.”
