Cole Palmer

Winger and Attacking Midfielder

Cole Palmer is a player who no one would have predicted to make the England squad for the 2024 Euros even just a year ago. However, his £40 million move to Chelsea this past summer gave him the chance for regular game time and to make a claim for his spot in the squad. This move can only be seen as a success for all involved as Cole Palmer has exploded in his time so far at Chelsea with a whopping 27 goals and 11 assists in all competitions this season. He is currently competing with Erling Haaland for the Premier League golden boot award for top goal scorer as well as being top five in the league for assists as well. His performances this season will surely put him in contention for the Premier League player of the season award. Apart from his goal contributions, Palmer also brings the ability to take set pieces at a high level. He is currently the preferred penalty and freekick taker at Chelsea and is yet to miss a penalty this season. It is never a bad idea to have an assured penalty taker in the squad as it is likely the Three Lions will have to participate in a penalty shootout if they are to win the trophy. Palmer also has the ability to play in multiple positions across the attack, having appeared as an attacking midfielder, winger, and even striker this season for Chelsea. Cole Palmer’s clinical finishing, play making ability, set piece specialty, and positional flexibility will surely make him a lock for the squad this summer. Gareth Southgate appears to agree, giving Palmer his England debut in the qualifying matches against Malta and North Macedonia.

“The way he’s adapted, playing and performing is fantastic. He behaves like a top scorer and I think it’s amazing for the team and him.” - Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea Manager
