Ben Chilwell

Left Back

Ben Chilwell’s career is a tale of two halves. On one hand, he is one of the most naturally gifted left backs in England’s history. On his day he is nearly unplayable, a phenomenal wing back with both defensive and attacking prowess. Back in 2021, he was an integral part of Chelsea’s unprecedented Champions League campaign. This campaign is especially noteworthy because Chelsea’s defense (a defense Chilwell consistently featured in) set the record for the fewest goals conceded in a Champion’s League season with an astounding 4 goals in 13 matches. Chilwell also has impressive offensive numbers for a defender. During England’s qualifying run for the 2021 Euros he registered 3 goal involvements in 5 matches, which are better numbers than some strikers. Tragically, Chilwell regularly falls victim to the scourge of many professional footballers: injuries. This is our only hesitancy when including him in the squad. If he remains healthy for the remainder of the season, we are absolutely confident he will travel to Germany with the team. However, we are unsure if he will start due to his lack of recent playing time. This season, he has only featured in 18 games across all competitions for Chelsea and only 2 games for England during the Euro 2024 qualifiers. During the 2022/2023 season he missed 15 games due to a hamstring injury and the season before that he missed a massive 45 games due to a cruciate ligament tear. Even though he has a rough history with injuries, we still think that he offers far too much to the team to omit from the roster. If he can regain his form, he will be one of the most formidable players on England’s team.

Ben Chilwell

“There's a lot of pressure we put on ourselves because we want to do well for ourselves and obviously do well for your country.”
