Aaron Ramsdale

Goalkeeper

Aaron Ramsdale has had a tumultuous season in the Premier League this year. He began the season as Arsenal’s goalkeeper, having been one of Arsenal’s best players during their title charge the previous year. Unfortunately, he quickly lost his spot to the Spanish keeper David Raya. Raya and Ramsdale had a brief battle deciding who would wear Arsenal’s number 1 shirt, and Raya came out on top. Since then, Ramsdale has struggled for game time and typically only plays when Raya is resting. We suspected that Ramsdale would look for a move away from Arsenal and to another club where he could be the first-choice keeper, but so far, he has stayed loyal to Arsenal. He has been sure to show out when he has gotten playing time. He frequently makes acrobatic saves that keep Arsenal in the game. We would say that he possesses immense talent, but his one main flaw is consistency. He will make an astonishing save one moment, and then the next, he could make an error, leading to the team conceding. However, we think the quality and resilience he has shown at Arsenal over the past two seasons are enough to confidently say he will be Southgate’s second-choice keeper behind Pickford. One last thing to consider is that if Ramsdale does make an appearance during the Euros, he is sure to play at the top of his game. This is because he will be excited to represent his country, but also because he will feel as if he has something to prove after losing his spot on Arsenal.
